Stainless steel, welder’s glass. 2018.

Public art project for Borås International Sculpture Biennial.

“C. Bugatti has built an apparatus for observing the sun without damaging your eyes, made out of the welding glass of the kind used to look at eclipses. This kind of glass has originally the same size of an iPhone’s screen - a device used to observe another kind of universe.

Since time immemorial, we have gazed at the sky to find our way, to calculate time and to plan our farming. The firmament has been impossible for us to control - and has thus inspired religion and mysticism, but also knowledge and science. It was simply necessary to our survival to understand the movement of heavenly bodies.
Today, all the data we extract from the sky is used as a potential means of improving mass production, tourism and military technology.”
